Moles, or nevi, are very common and most people have between 10 and 40 moles on their body. They may be pink, tan, brown or a color similar to a person’s normal skin tone. Moles may be flat or raised and are usually round or oval and smaller than a pencil eraser. They may be present at birth or may appear later in life.
Although most moles are harmless, patients may choose to have them surgically removed to enhance their appearance. Once removed, moles rarely return. Certain types of moles may be more concerning, especially those changing color, shape or size. Corederm’s Board Certified Dermatologists are experts in evaluating moles during their cancer screenings.
